Snippet: "Bound to Christ alone"

Snip·pet | ˈsnipit | noun a small piece or brief extract.

This one is from Nkosinathi Mbuyazi in today’s Lectio 365:

“The ancient legal principle of ‘an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth’ ensures that, if one person wrongs another, the punishment will be proportional and not excessive. It takes human evil seriously in order to establish a just and safe community. But, according to Jesus, the way to overcome evil is not to exact revenge. ‘When a Christian meets with injustice,’ Dietrich Bonhoeffer writes, ‘he no longer clings to his rights and defends them at all costs. He is... bound to Christ alone.’

I think we can say from Bonhoeffer’s life that for him to live—Christ! To die—gain!
