Here's last weekend’s sermon in 10 Tweets in our “The Story Begins (The Gospel Project)" series.
/ The only way you can have some assurance that your faith is real or not real is when you go through trials in your life.
/ If your fail the test because your faith is weak, it shows where you need to grow stronger. God doesn’t abandon you. He wants to grow you.
/ Abraham is living a nightmare, but he still has hope.
/ God provides a substitute sacrifice. The theme of substitution is at the heart of Christianity.
/ This story is here because it foreshadows a day when God would take his Son, his only Son, the One whom he loves, & place him on an altar.
/ And this time, when the Son is about to be sacrificed, nobody will say, “Stop!”
/ God calls us to trust in his provision in the test.
/ You know you are being tested when obedience to God appears to pull you right out of the path of God’s blessing.
/ We need to be tested to see whether we are chasing after God’s blessings or chasing after the God of the blessings.
/ “Abraham reasoned.” To pass the test you have to think about who God is, what God is like, and what God can do.
