Cuba Partnership

As part of our FOR [ ] Campaign we designated funds for partnering with the Willow Creek Association to sponsor the Global Leadership Summit in Cuba. We were on site for the first GLS in Cuba and met our future partners from Santa Clara.

Our hope has always been to use the Summit as a means of partnering with the church in Cuba at this historic time of opportunity.

After assembling our team to attend the first GLS in Santa Clara, Cuba, the conference was postponed by the government. But as far as our partnership is concerned, this is the best thing that could have happened.

The extra time we had with church leaders because of the cancelation accelerated our understanding of the church in Cuba and, most importantly, our relationship with Pastor Miguel (who visited with us in MN last August) and his team.

When people ask me what's next, I explain that what's next to have some of their leaders come to MN and share more deeply with us how they make disciples who make disciples and multiply churches because they are way ahead of us. We have much to learn from them.

Here's a one-minute video captures some of the moments from our trip. Click here to see the video if you receive this post by email.

Ten Tweets on “Marks of a Stewarding Leader” (1 Corinthians 4:1-21)

Here's the weekend sermon in 10 tweets (Letter to the Corinthians series):

1/ Spiritual leadership is about stewardship. The church is a field, building/temple, and household.

2/ Mark 1: Faithfulness. “It is required of stewards that they be found faithful.” (4:2)

3/ Paul: “It is the Lord who judges me.” Judgment is a broader, more positive concept than most of us realize.

4/ Judgment redeems. It gets the hell out of God’s creation, his good earth.

5/ Judgment purifies and disciplines. God is more concerned with our character than our comfort.

6/ Judgment rewards. God’s "well done." More responsibility.

7/ Pride for a Christian is illogical.

8/ Stewarding leadership suffers—it says “no” to now, to me, to temptation, for the sake of others.

9/ Comer: “When the crucified Messiah become the cosmic vending machine, life coach, I exist to make you happy…”

10/ Spiritual leaders mentor personally and lovingly. They say what needs to be said, even it’s it’s hard to hear.
