"The Story of God" Coming Soon!

We've got something big coming to Five Oaks with the new year. It's hard to explain all this entails, but imagine...

  • Inviting your unchurched friends to your small group or our worship gatherings to get the whole story of God and an overview of the Bible in eight short weeks. They come away saying, "It makes sense. God and Jesus make sense for the first time in my life."
  • Getting an overview of the whole Bible you can remember and share with others, bringing God's story to bear on your own life and the lives of others. You might come away saying, "I now understand how it all fits together."
  • Our whole church being on the same page when I refer back to Abraham, Moses, David, Nehemiah or anyone in between. Then we package it and teach it to anyone who makes Five Oaks their church home in the future.
  • Reading through the Bible in eight weeks with a guide at your side --not every passage, but key passages and stories. You and your friends might come away saying, "Now I understand how the Bible is organized. I have a solid framework I can build on."

For the first eight weeks of the new year we're going to do all this and more through an integrated approach in our small groups, weekend messages and daily Group Life. And we're going to do it in a way you've never experienced before in your small groups--the story-formed way.

I can't wait to tell you more. Get ready. Small group leaders, we'll offer a one-hour training for the Story-formed Way before the end of the year. We'll offer lots of opportunities and times. And if you can't make it to one of our trainings, we'll sit with you over coffee and get you up to speed. Get ready because this is going to revolutionalize our church and our ministry.

Tru is our new Children's Ministry elementary curriculum that includes three elements I'm so excited about:

  • Stations for worship engagement
  • The meta-story of the Bible is being taught (a framework and foundation for Bible reflection and study all their lives)
  • Parent compenent for spiritual formation in the home

So here's one parents story from this last week in an email to Jeni Carlson, Director of Children's Ministry, and her team.

...Just wanted you to know that my boys and I spent some time this morning making the "mini deep dish pizzas"...it was so much fun.  ...We were so busy following directions that I forgot to "tell a good story" along with it...but the other ministry ideas in the current packet (that my daughter brings home) has been incorporated throughout our week.

I really appreciate the tools you are providing for our children.  And it's even more wonderful b/c as a homeschooling mother, it gives me something to look forward to for our bible lessons and I know it's right in sync with what our church is teaching at the same time.  I feel much better eqipped to address important biblical topics like the one this week in "storytelling" about how to begin a true relationship with Him.  My daugher had no idea what that meant and she appeared to really internalize that story.

So, thank you so much.  You are doing a wonderful job and I wanted you to know it!
