Snippet: Our Greatest Story
Snip·pet | ˈsnipit | noun a small piece or brief extract.
The Lectio 365 devotional celebrates what they call “feast days” where they focus on people from the past (all are deceased) who have had a big impact for the gospel in their time. Today’s was on Eugene Peterson who was born on this day in 1932. They quote him saying,
“Stories invite us into a world larger than ourselves. We’re story-telling people, and our lives are stories. They have plot, they have intent, and they have other people... And the Bible is our greatest story. If we just live within ourselves, or if our lives are determined by our own needs, our wants, or our desires, it’s a very small world.*
I started the Story of God with the high schoolers this past weekend sharing similar ideas about stories…how we live in stories, edit our stories, and choose between competing stories.
I heartedly agree with what he says about the small world of living within ourselves. It’s a lonely world, too.
It’s a battle within ourselves to live in God’s story. Let’s keep up the fight.
