Looking for Sermon Previewers

Another experiment. I’m looking for people willing to preview a sermon manuscript a few days before I preach it to give some feedback on several items (and any ideas, too).

Some of the items include:

  • Do you see missed opportunities to specifically address students, seekers, and life at work during the week?

  • Does it flow? Is it easy to follow? Are there enough recaps to recapture attention or get people caught up if their minds wandered for a while?

  • Does the introduction create enough tension to engage people to listen? Is the WIIFM (What’s in it for me?) clear?

  • Will the more experienced Christian be challenged or learn something but not leave the inexperienced totally confused?

  • Is the hearer the “hero” (think Luke) and the pastor the wise mentor (think Yoda)? Does it equip the hero for the epic journey of discipleship that mostly happens outside of the worship service?

  • Can big ideas be stated in shorter, more memorable ways?

  • Are there clear calls to action and applications?

I wouldn’t ask you to preview a sermon more than once per month or so.

Let me know if you’d like to give it a try. Trying it can be your own experiment.
