After several weeks of getting my messages done at about 4:15 p.m. (meaning outlines, PowerPoint and my notes), I'm finally ahead by one week. I'd like to be ahead about eight weeks ahead. Eight would be great for so many reasons, but Lois tells me that's being excessive. I'll tell you why eight would be perfect some other time, but for now, I'd like to be at least three weeks ahead.
I just finished the first draft of my message for September 6/7 and it's about spiritual friendships. We'll be doing a big push for small groups (including women's small groups) that weekend as part of the message. If you're in a small group, I think a lot of unconnected folks will be more open to joining in on that weekend. Take the opening. Pray for God to lead you to the people looking for community.
I will be doing something I don't think I've done before. I will encourage some people not to join a group yet. In fact, I think we could take a decrease in small group involvement and be healthier as a church of small groups, if it were for the right reasons. Curious? Don't miss that weekend.
