Would you love sifting through Bible research and creating a "Sermon Brief?"

We prepare an extensive research packet on the weekend text for whoever is preaching. It includes commentary entries, sermons, podcast transcripts, and other materials on the passage.

I currently have someone who sifts through that packet (typically 50 or more pages long), and he creates a shorter document based on our criteria for the kinds of information we can use for sermons.

I’d like to expand this into a team of people creating sermon briefs.

If you think you would enjoy doing this—something that would be torture for some but fun for you—let me know, and I’ll send more information.

Snippet: Captivating Discipleship Training for Kids (and Adults)

Snip·pet | ˈsnipit | noun a small piece or brief extract.

Here’s one from the July 28, 2023 Breakpoint podcast from the Colson Center. This episode is one of their weekly extended conversations. Every week the hosts offer some recommendations at the end of the podcast. Here was John Stonestreet’s from this episode:

“My two daughters were going with me on a trip. It was a five-hour drive with two little girls, six and four. And we did not stop for the bathroom once. You know why? We put the Narnia CDs in [from the Focus on the Family Radio Theatre series]. They were six and four, and it kept them captivated for four hours!”

He goes on to recommend other radio dramas from Focus on the Family, including Anne of Green Gables and Bonhoeffer. You can check it out here: https://store.focusonthefamily.com/radio-theatre/.

When our kids were growing up, it was the radio version of Adventures in Odyssey (not to be confused with the videos) from Focus on the Family. The boys were captivated, and so were Lois and I. Simply fantastic and one of the best discipleship tools we ever used. I know teens who started listening to them when they were young and still do. They’re that good. Start at the very beginning if start to listen to them. You can access them here: https://www.adventuresinodyssey.com.
