What do you like about serving in this ministry?

  • I think what I like best about serving as a daily life writer is that it pushes me to keep learning too.

What do you find most challenging about serving in this ministry?

  • The biggest challenge is often just finding the time in all the usual craziness of life to actually get the writing done.

What might be an indication that you are that week’s writer?

  • An absolute "dead giveaway" that I am the writer of a lesson would probably be if the Christian Parody Band APOLOGETIX is mentioned.

What’s one thing people might find surprising about you?

  • People may be surprised that I had long hair, earrings, and played guitar in Christian Metal bands in the 90's.

What’s your favorite book in the Bible?

  • I do not have a favorite book of the Bible per se rather I never cease to be amazed by the fact that God never gives up on us even when the same cannot be said of us in relation to him.

What are your hobbies?

  • My hobbies include photography, gardening, and DIY projects.  I also love classic cars and Sci-Fi.

The Weekend - "Why Judges?"

If I told you I was reading a book that uncovers the dark side of heroes past, uncovering all the dirt on their lives, you'd probably tell me to find better reading material or decry the modern journalistic penchant for uncovering dirt and sensationalizing sin.

But you might be surprised to discover that I'm reading the Bible, Judges in particular. One of the interesting features of Judges is that it focuses the most on the judges who were the worst human beings or examples of weak faith. And it does it for good reason.

Knowing the reason helps us understand better why Judges (and most of the rest of the books in the Bible) leave few faith heroes sins hidden. Why the Bible seems to major on exposing the dirt.

Come this weekend to learn how to read Judges and to look at the hinge verse that haunts parents. And come to pray, to sing songs of worship to God and to one another, and to encourage your brothers and sisters in Christ to love well and do good deeds.
