Here's last weekend's sermon in 10 Tweets, "What is Love? (1 John 4:8)," Loveology: Love, Marriage and Relationships in the Story of God: 15566982299_7d3ba51244_o

1/ What is love? Henry: "Lois, Nala has stinky feet!" Lois: "Yeah, I know, but I don't mind it."

2/ The Bible's definition of love: God is love. You have no idea the depths of that statement unless you have the backstory.

3/ The depths of God's love early in the story (Creation) doesn't become evident until much later in the story.

4/ At Separation (Gen 3) there is a rending of all relationships. God sees the consequences of sin yet loves so much he launches a rescue plan.

5/ God's Promise to pay the price of Abraham's (and our) sins with his life is incomprehensible & ludicrous for the next 2000 years.

6/ By Salvation (the gospels) God's love in creation becomes evident. He had all the love & fellowship he needed in himself (Jn 1 & 17:5)

7/ He creates us to share in his love. To join the dance.

8/ When Jesus goes to the cross, we see the fulfillment of his promise. God pays the price. God dies. Rom 5:6-8, while we were still sinners

9/ That is the backstory to the song called "God is love"

10/ God's story--which is the gospel--gives you the pattern and power for love in your life.

Here's my sermon from Easter weekend in 10 Tweets, "For those who didn't get the memo," Matthew 28 5743042697_c0b8742700_b

1/ I don't know about you, but every day I see or hear something that I don't understand & I feel like I didn't get the memo...BOGO

2/ It's serious when we don't feel we got the memo on connecting with God.

3/ Easter is about God making sure the people who didn't get the memo get the memo.

4/ Mary Magdalene is the only clearly identified disciple in the entire resurrection narrative in Matthew.

5/ Mary M typifies the people Jesus intentionally targeted in his ministry--those who didn't get the memo.

6/ Some of the disciples still doubted, even as Jesus was giving them the Great Commission.

7/ The key word in the memo is one in Greek but is translated, "He has risen."

8/ The key word means there is new life and a new body coming. Great news for those facing death or experiencing disability.

9/ Because he is risen we have his teaching to direct our everyday lives. And we have him (I will be with you to the end of the age)

10/ We are a bunch of people who got the memo, responded in faith and now help others get the memo and become followers of Jesus.
