10 Tweets

Here are 10 Tweets from Tim Bubar's sermon from the weekend, "Elijah Prays," 1 Kings 18:41-46: 1// You may have a personal relationship with God, but do you ever relate to him person-to-person?

2// James tells us that Elijah prayed and it stopped raining. He prayed again and it started raining.

3// To understand what Elijah is doing, you have to understand what God is doing and has done.

4// God makes a promise, and in doing so he initiates and directs our prayer.  Elijah and Daniel prayed in response to God's promises, and they knew what to pray for.

5// Pray God's promises back to him - for your loved ones, for yourself, for his kingdom.

6// God reveals his power, and in doing so he motivates our prayer. Elijah knew that God could do anything.

7// Have you put yourself in a position to see God's power displayed?

8// God responds to prayer, and in doing so he emboldens our prayer.  Elijah prayed boldly, fervently, persistently.

9// The Puritans said sometimes you need to "pray yourself into prayer."

10// Your excuse may be that you're no Elijah.  Sorry, James already beat you to that one - "Elijah was as human as we are." "The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working."

More Story of God Responses

Here are a few more participant responses from our winter session: // The church sermons are more relatable, too with the knowledge of the background story.

// I wanted to see God with the eyes of a child.  To see Him like I did when I first gave my heart to Him.  There have been moments when I have felt that rush and that intimacy, that purity of Spirit.  But God took things a different way.  The relationship matured and became an older intimacy, more like a marriage.

// My knowledge of the Bible was minimal and I feel my learning exceeded what I was hoping to take away. ...I’m excited to share my knowledge with our son as he gets older, and begin his introduction to the Bible at a young age.  Thank you so much. This class was tremendous!!

// It brought me back into God’s word.  I missed it.  I did not realize how much.  I hope to continue on my journey and growth.  I realize how I need others.

// Understanding how it all fits together is exciting and faith building and also gives me more confidence when I’m questioned about why I believe.
