Rewriting the Bible?

I just checked the sermon online from last weekend and Philip Vierling did indeed say I am taking six weeks off from preaching to rewrite the Story of God.

I also just reread Revelation 22:18-19 with its warnings about not adding or subtracting from the book, and I’m pretty sure it says nothing about rewriting it…as long as I don’t mess with the word count.

Okay, all kidding aside, I am working on a revision of The Story of God: A 40-Day Guided Journey through the Bible. To facilitate that, I’m taking six weeks off from preaching and have also cut down on the number of meetings I attend.

My goal is to create a “workbook” type book for our Story of God ministry and take the course offline. It’s too much reading for an online course. (We previously used the book before we moved the course online.)

The book will be larger than the old book so that people can keep all their notes in it. It will link to videos (with room to take notes in the book), and all the discussion guides will be in the book.

Along the way, I am rewriting—making some parts more robust and streamlining others.

The goal is to have physical copies of the book ready by January.

I’m three weeks into the process and halfway through the book, so I’m technically on pace to finish the first draft of the revision by the end of the six weeks. However, there is a lot more to this than writing a first draft, so I’ll continue to work on it when I’m fully engaged again in preaching and meetings.

I’ll be “hosting” again this weekend in our services, so I’ll see you there.
