Off the Cutting Room Floor: Room of Marvels

If you want to renew your imagination about the eternal and sharpen your focus on what is truly eternal, I recommend James Bryan Smith's Room of Marvels: A Story of Heaven that Heals the Heart.

I wanted to talk about the book and the experience of reading it, but didn’t have time.

I read this book over a decade ago while on a personal retreat, and just reread it this past week. It was even better than I remembered. Read the new edition. It has some fun extras at the end.

Off the Cutting Room Floor: Questions about Eternity

Here’s a little something I cut from my sermon for time’s sake.

The Sadducees have challenged Jesus regarding life after death. They offer an argument that Jesus has no problem answering.

It got me thinking (and this is what I cut):

There’s a lot that stumps us about eternity. A lot of unanswered questions. Questions like, How will we not get bored? How will we keep from messing up again? How can we be happy knowing some loved ones are missing out?

From what Jesus says here, I can imagine him asking us, “Don’t you think God has an answer for all your questions, and he has a good reason for not yet answering them?”

Also, it’s like Jesus is saying, “Don’t you think God has already figured out that problem?
