Snippet: Daily Humiliations

snip·pet | ˈsnipit | noun a small piece or brief extract.

Jeff Haanen in an article called “God of the Second Shift”:

“Have we…seen the culture-shaping power of work but been blind to the ‘daily humiliations’ of those whose work we depend on each day? Have we been interpreting Scripture through our own professional class bias and failed to ask how working-class Americans think and feel about their work?”

Yes, another way our bias can influence our Bible reading.

Another reason a diverse community reading Scripture together is so important.

Great article at Christianity Today, “God of the Second Shift: The theology of work conversation is thriving. Why are most workers missing from it?” by Jeff Haanen.

Snippet: "Christ as much as Loki"

This is from a letter by a 17-year-old skeptic to a friend:

“All religions, that is, all mythologies, to give them their proper name, are merely man’s own invention—Christ as much as Loki. …Superstition of course in every age has held the common people, but in every age the educated and thinking ones have stood outside it, though usually outwardly conceded to it for convenience.”

Read the whole letter and the whole article here: “Letter from a Teenage Anti-Christian Skeptic” by Randy Newman. The catch is it’s a letter written by 17-year-old C.S. Lewis. Really encouraging article.
