We are the church, whether we are gathered or scattered--each one of us, a part of the body of Christ, wherever we go, whatever we do.

So, where can you find us, and what are we doing?

Doing our own camp for middle schoolers this summer was a huge operation, and one of the biggest parts of that was providing quality food at a reasonable price, not to mention cooking, cleaning, transporting, planning…there is A LOT that goes into it. That’s why we are thankful for Mike Selbitschka and his team! (I rememberer playing football at Camp Getaway back in the day when Mike was in high school! He was usually the quarterback of the opposing team.) Mike, joined with Mike Rasmussen, Ralph and Jewel Lewis, Loretta Haley (our original camp getaway meal planner), and Jeff Kloetstra. This team not only made amazing food, but made it look effortless. They even provided fun snacks and helped with set up and take down for different events! We are thankful for the food team and their passion to serve Five Oaks Students and Camp Getaway year after year.

So, where can you find us, and what are we doing?

Over the week of July 10-16, 15 Five Oaks high school students and 3 leaders made a trip to Louisville, KY to build cross cultural relationships with refugees, partnering with Antioch Church. The purpose of the trip was spiritual formation, learning, and service. They worked hard cleaning up gardens and homes, learned a lot about cross cultural relations through our church partnership, and spent time with refugees in their homes. They even participated in an apologetics podcast episode targeting a youth audience, asking questions of the hosts. It’s really a great episode you can check out here. It was a fruitful trip where our students bonded, learned a ton, served God’s mission, and had fun in the process!
