1/ Woodley: God doesn’t deliver David from the battle; instead, he sends a friend into the heat of the battle…his name is Jonathan.

2/ Jonathan helped David "find strength in God" (1 Sam 23:16)

3/ Eugene Peterson: Friendship is a much underestimated aspect of spirituality. It’s every bit as significant as prayer and fasting.

4/ Spiritual friends model wholehearted devotion to God.

5/ Long before Jonathan ever seeks out David,  he helps Jon recover from what may have been the darkest period of his life

6/ Spiritual friends willingly sacrifice for each other. What’s good for David is good for him because so deeply united in their friendship.
