God's Story and Ours

I like what Michael Lawrence says about God's story and ours in Biblical Theology in the Life of the Church. He says that rather than treating the Bible as life's little answer book, we need to see it as...

"...the grand story that gives our stories meaning. This means that the vision we need comes...from a prayerful habit of mind that refuses to understand Today according to the terms of the cultural narratives at hand--the narragives of progress, ethnicity, and accumulation, to name a few. Instead, Today is defined in light of the biblical story. That story increasingly defines who we are, where we've come from, and where we're going. As a result, that story tells us what we should be doing and thinking and feeling Today."

Coming Up This Weekend

This coming weekend we're going to change things up a bit. It's one of four weekends of the year with an extra Sunday, and we're experimenting with experimenting a bit on those weekends. The message will still be on "The Story of God," but we will not have our usual stations this weekend. We will, however, celebrate Communion as a response to a message on "Sacrifice." Our plan right now is to pass the Communion plates, so that will also be different than our usual practices.

I'm also looking forward to the team that will be leading worship at the Woodbury campus. Justin and the Fusion worship band will be leading us. Fusion is our mid-week high school ministry at the Woodbury campus. One of the things I love about our church is how many youth serve in ministries at both campuses.
