Leadership Resources & Member Benefits from the WCA

Star Trek membership card I often say that membership at Five Oaks doesn't offer any special benefits, only new responsibilities and more leadership opportunities.

Well, I've finally found a benefit of membership at Five Oaks--access to Willow Creek Association leadership resources and discounts (e.g., 10% on Apple products!).

One of the best free resources you can start using for personal or team leadership development is "Defining Moments." This is a monthly on-line video that features a short clip from one of the Summit speakers and then interview style reflections on the topic with Bill Hybels.

If you're a Five Oaks member, you can get access to this for yourself, your volunteer team or your work team!

Email me and I'll give you the scoop on how to access this.

If you're a Five Oaker and not yet a member, maybe it's time to become a member. Membership at Five Oaks is a step of commitment to the body of Christ. It's a way of saying, "I want to join this team--this local expression of Christ's body. You can count on me to serve and give and live in community." It's important to me to know I can count on you. Join our team!

Students Needing Mentors (Kids Hope)

We have a few students at Woodbury Elementary who have been referred and are asking multiple times a week about when they will be able to start meeting with a mentor.  They have heard how enjoyable the program is and they are excited to be a part of it. One's a 3rd grade boy who is friendly, respectful and gets along with everyone, but he needs a little help with his homework and the teacher will supply most of what you need to assist him. We're looking for a male mentor for him for one hour a week. The best times he is available are Thursday 9:15-10:15 or Tuesday 1:00-2:00.

Another 3rd grade boy loves art and helping others. He's interested in sports and music. He would really benefit from some 1:1 time with an adult who can encourage him and assist him in his homework. He's available mornings from 9:15-9:45am or any time after 1pm most days.

And one more 3rd grade boy who loves to snowmobile. He needs extra support with spelling and math and could use a male mentor. His best availability is Thursday 9:15-10:15am or Tuesdays 1:00-2:00pm.

If you're interested, please let me know and I'll pass you on to Sarah Bowers.
